On January 1st the first woman president took office in Brazil. Dilma Rousseff, made history by becoming the first female president of Brazil. She is not just an ordinary person who was randomly elected to be president. She was a guerrilla fighter in the 1960s that fought back against the dictatorship of the government. Since she fought back she was imprisoned for three years and during that time she was tortured. Ever since then she wanted to rise above the past and fight to make Brazil a better place for everyone. Her goal is to better education, help the poor, and provide health care and security to the people of Brazil.
In the United States we have began to change our view of how the president should be. In 2009 the first African-American president was elected. In England the Queen has been ruling for quite some time without a King. Recently, Brazil has set the stage for a woman to be at the top. Being one of the few countries to elect a woman has truly opened the door for other countries to really start thinking about and pursing electing a woman to run a country.
Every time change is among us we become scared and resistant to new ideas. The idea of a woman running a country is scary for many to accept but because Brazil has elected its first woman president, it is opening the door for a big change that could even happen here in the near future. What do you think about having a woman as president?

I feel the same about a women becoming president as i do a women becoming a CEO of a company which is that the idea is great. Like i have said in previous posts women bring many different things to the table that men do not. The one thing that i would not want to see a women do when in office is bring emotions into her leading. Given that women are more emotionally intelligent that could be an issue while leading a country. When your the president you have to make some quick decisions and use your head more that your heart especially in cases such as war. This is a big issue for many when thinking about electing a woman as the president.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand women do bring much more to other issues that men as presidents might over look and that is why it is very important for women to have that chance to be the president. With women like Nacey Polocy being the majority leader in the congress and with Hilary Clinton running for office shows that women are starting to gain a lot of well deserved respect. These two examples are a big reason why i think that women will be moving to the position of president very soon.
Finally though people are starting to realize with the women controlling top companies in the U.S that they are more than capable to run a country.

ReplyDeleteWhen answering the question as to whether there should be a women president, I agree with both above statements. I beleive that it all comes down to whether or not the individual can perfom the requirements of being president. Also, if women are more emotianally intelligent, they are able to read the emotions of people around them. This could be a good thing if the president is able to understand what people are feeling sooner than later.
ReplyDeleteWhen looking at the styles approach, I can see a women being able to have a very good team management style (9,9). Women are known for having very good relationships with others. Also, if a women is trying to become president, she is most likely very committed to the task and want the people around her (congress, US citezens, etc.) to be committed to what she is doing. If women are trying to break the glass ceiling, who knows, they may try harder than men in the office just to try and make a point.

ReplyDeleteI think having a woman as president is fine. If she can perform the job requirements of president at a stand level, then it is ok with me for a woman to be president. One person who I think could have done a good job as President of the United States is Hilary Clinton. I think Hilary demonstrates excellent trait aspects with sociability with people, self-confidence in speech, and determination in wanting to further advance the United States to its full potential.
